DESCRIPTION:
Tomb 4 is a large underground burial complex featuring an atrium that is surrounded on all four sides by porticoes. The entrance is accessed via a stepped dromos (staircase), which leads to the western side of the atrium. To the right of the dromos, beneath the northern portico, there is a well.
The atrium is surrounded on three sides by porticoes supported by columns, while on the fourth side—where the entrance is located—the portico is supported by pillars. These columns and pillars are monolithic, carved from natural rock, and support an entablature in the Doric order.
Eventually, part of the dromos may have been roofed, as indicated by the footings carved into its two upper sides for supporting stone plaques.
Opposite the entrance, there is a vaulted burial chamber. The walls of the chamber feature loculi, and the floor contains pit-shaped tombs. Additionally, more loculi and pit graves are present along the walls of the atrium and on the floor under the porticoes.
