CHRONOLOGY: 1st -4th century AD

DESCRIPTION:

The so-called Nymphaeum of Kourion divides the large public bath complex into eastern and western sections. It has three parts: the northern, central, and southern sections. According to the excavator, the Nymphaeum's initial phase dates back to the 1st century AD and includes a four-construction phase.

The northern section consists of a square cistern surrounded by three walls, with the eastern and western sides decorated with two niches each. The third wall, with an apse on the north side, replaced an older wall with three apsed fountains (first phase).

Part of the floor was decorated with mosaics, and statues adorned the spaces of the so-called Nymphaeum.

An alternative identification proposes that this area was part of the cold baths (frigidarium) of the bath complex.
