DESCRIPTION:
The eastern section of the public baths at Kourion features several areas designed for different bathing experiences: hot baths (caldarium), lukewarm baths (tepidarium), and cold baths (frigidarium). This section includes a hexagonal swimming pool (natatio) and changing rooms.
Along the eastern wall of the Nymphaeum, three hot rooms still retain parts of their hypocaust heating systems (rooms 1, 2, and 3). Hot air was circulated from the furnace (prefurnium) located outside of room 1, which was identified as a sweat room (sudatorium). The centre room (caldarium 2) served as the hot bath, while the third room (tepidarium 3) was designated as a lukewarm bath. Additionally, two other hot baths in this section function as sweating rooms (sudatoria 4 and 5).
Sweating room 5 is connected to the cold bath (frigidarium 6) and a corridor (7) that is paved with a mosaic floor. This corridor provides access to the area with the hexagonal swimming pool (natatio 8), intended for swimming. To the south, is a series of rooms (9) that may have served as changing rooms.
