DESCRIPTION:

PORPHYRIOS DIKAIOS

In 1934, P.Dikaios who at that time was Curator of the Cyprus Museum, discovered and later excavated large segments of the village. He was one of the pillars of Cypriot archaeology. His unique discoveries at Choirokoitia, but also at Kalavassos, Sotira, Erimi and Engomi, gave a new dimension to the understanding of prehistoric Cyprus.

At that time, the Neolithic was only known in Cyprus by the remains of humble huts discovered by the Swedish Cyprus Expedition at Petra tou Limniti. During his first campaign of excavations at Choirokoitia in 1936, Dikaios brought to light important remains of architecture: the wall that enclosed the older village, also the buildings of the more recent village.
